Panel Hoarding Construction Notes

• All Workmanship & Materials in accordance AS 4687:2022 - Hoardings & Temporary Fencing
• The hoarding installation practices outlined in this document are classified as an "internal temporary hoarding" as per AS4687:2022
• Dimensions are in Millimeters & Dimensions shall not be obtained by scaling hoarding drawings
• All hoardings shall be erected by a competent installer in accordance with this document
• Any time the hoarding is moved or altered it shall be done by a competent installer in accordance with this document
• Substitutions are only to be made with the approval of a Structural Engineer
• Hoardings are not designed for additional loading
• No items to be learnt against the hoarding at any time
• Timber to be free of any defects at joints
• Uprights to be free of any defects & cracks
• Weight Blocks per upright to be installed in accordance with NXGN Uprights Structural Drawings & Load Ratings

Panel Hoardings - Panel Installation Detail

Panel Hoardings are fabricated off-site and the pre-fabricated components are transported and fixed together on-site. Panel Heights/Widths, Door Opening Heights/Widths will vary dependent on Panel & Door Construction.

Standard Panels

• Panels are fixed to one another through the Panel Stud (ST) using 65mm 10G Chipboard Screws Top, Middle & Bottom.
• Uprights are fixed to the Panel Studs (ST) Top, Middle & Bottom Stud Upright Receiver with 35mm 8G Chipboard Screws

Splay Panels

• Splay Panels are intended to change the direction of the hoarding and provide a flush corner finish on the hoarding face.

• Splay Panels when installed on-site are screwed through the skin overhang into the other Hoarding Panel Stud Top, Middle & Bottom.
• Corner braces are to be added to Splay Panels if an Offset Upright is unable to be installed

Panel Hoardings - Panel Construction

Hoarding Panels can be constructed from a 9mm MDF or Plywood Skin (SK) fixed to a 70 x 35mm MGP10 Timber Frame.

Panel Frames are fixed with 2x 65mm 8G Chipboard Screws through Studs (ST) to Top & Bottom Plates (TP/BP).

Panel Skins (SK) are fixed to the Panel Frames using 35mm 10G Chipboard Screws as outlined in "Panel Type Hoarding - Panel Construction Detail".

Panel Hoardings - Splay Panel Construction

Splay Panel construction is identical to normal Panel Construction, the only difference being the SK Overhang to allow for a flush corner connection.

Panel Hoardings - Door Head Construction

Door Heads are constructed from a 70 x 35mm MGP10 Timber Frame with a 9mm MDF or Plywood skin (SK).

Door Head Frames are fixed with 2x 65mm 8G Chipboard Screws through Studs (ST) to Top & Bottom Plates (TP/BP).

Door Heads will vary in height & width depending on:

• Height of the doors (DOH)
• Door Opening Width (DOW)
• Panel Height (PH)

(Door Head Height) = (Panel Height) - (Door Opening Height)

Door Heads are typically made into two separate smaller "Door Head" panels for ease of installation as detailed in "Panel Type Hoarding - Door Head Construction" .

Door Head On-Site Installation

Door Heads are fixed with 65mm 10G Chipboard Screws Top & Bottom of Door Heads through Hoarding Panel Studs (ST) as detailed in "Panel Type Hoarding - Door Head Construction" .

Hanging Doors

Door Opening Widths (DOW) & Door Opening Heights (DOH) will vary dependent on the specification of the door that is being hung.

Offset Uprights will be required so the doors are able to swing inside the construction site.

Maximum DOW: 1850mm

Most Panel Type or Practical hoarding installations will have:

• D1 - 820 x 2040
• D2 - 870 x 2040
• DOW: 1700mm
• DOH: 2060mm

Door Construction

To achieve a flush finish with the hoarding face, 70 x 45mm Timber Packers are Glued & Fixed onto the back of the door, hinges are fixed to the Timber Packers & doors hinges are fixed to the Hoarding Stud (ST).

Panel Hoardings - Upright Fixing Detail

Uprights are fixed to the Hoarding Panel Studs (ST) Top & Bottom "Stud Fixing Holes" with 35mm 8G Chipboard Screws.

Fixings Top, Middle & Bottom to be drilled through the "Stud Fixing Holes" hole that is most central to Stud (ST) once the panel has been plumbed and levelled.

Offset Uprights

Offsetting Uprights are required when/if:

• The Uprights Weight Block will affect the operation of the Doors
• The Uprights Weight Block will extrude past the Hoarding (ex: hoardings with no returns)
• Other potential obstacles (pot plants, chairs, ATM's, etc).

Offsetting the uprights gives the installer the option to move the Upright within the Hoarding Panel to ensure the Weight Blocks are not visible to the public or a safety hazard.

Panel Hoardings - Corner Brace Detail

Corner Braces are used for Splay Panels & Return panels fixed to the Panels Top & Bottom plates (BP/TP).

Constructed from 70 x 35 MGP10 Timber.

Panel Hoardings - Splay Panel Corner Braces

Often, but not always, the angle of the splay makes it unachievable to install an Upright to the Hoarding Panel Stud (ST) in the splay corner.

This may also happen due to a smaller panel (600mm,300mm) being close to the splay edge.

If you are unable to install an Offset Upright, a corner brace must be added.

Panel Hoardings - Returns

Return Panels are fixed to the Face Panel Studs -- Top, Middle, Bottom 65mm 10G Chipboard Screws.

Corner braces are added to the Return Panel.

Hoardings With No Returns

Hoardings without Return Panels require the installation of an Offset Upright to support the end of the Panel.
